I am surprised that it’s still legal to use these suffixes (playpen).
I thought these were removed (in favor of isize/isize), but I see they are not even deprecated.

Indeed! I thought they were feature-gated, in fact. Must have gotten overlooked.
i’ve reopened https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/22496 and nominated it so that this will get looked at and triaged by the team.
