Farewell, Rust

Good luck!

So long and thanks for all the stickers!

Seriously though, sad to see you go! Thanks for all the work you’ve done, without you the Rust project surely wouldn’t be what it is today

Best of luck!

Thank you, Brian, for everything that you’ve contributed to the project. I’ve always found you to have a sharp eye for what needs attention, an infectious excitement about pushing the project forward, and a welcoming attitude towards new contributors. Any project would be lucky to have you on the team.

I hope you find the space you need with your break, and look forward to seeing your contributions in the future if you get involved in public projects again, whether it is to this or any other project.

Farewell, brson. It’s been great to interact with you. You were a great mentor and role model for me when I was just getting started with open source contribution and Rust.

I wish you the best in your new endeavors @brson!

Thanks so much for being such a welcoming person and such a good mentor for me and thanks for helping us in Mexico City!

I really hope to meet with you again in the future.

Keep rocking!

You helped guide me in my first contributions to Rust! Thanks for everything you’ve done for Rust! Hopefully the next part of your life is excellent!

I teared up while reading this. I got the news while waking up in the same hammock in which I was sleeping while I was bumming it in San Francisco in preparation for Rust 1.0. That period was when I first met the Rust dev team, and of them, Brian was the one who first invited me into the Mozilla offices, gave me a tour, and insisted on taking a photo of me in front of the newly-installed Rust logo up on the office wall. Brian’s kindness and expertise are world-class. His excitement at Rust’s prospects to have a positive impact on the world are inspiring, and his devotion and persistence in pushing us to achieve that dream over the past seven years have been more than we could have asked from anyone. He’s a great developer, community member, and leader, and even though Rust is still in good hands, we will doubtless miss him dearly.

Brian, good luck in your future endeavors, and I hope to see you around here again someday.

Congrats @brson, voluntary unemployment is certainly one of the most enjoyable things in life.
On the other hand, sad news for us :(

You will be missed.

Enjoy your sabbatical/break/change of career/whatever else it ends up being; you only live once!
