Does that imply that IO won't incur virtual calls anymore?
Has it been considered that the drop flag is stored separately from the struct on the stack in functions where the structure might be dropped, but also might be moved away.

Yes it has. I don't remember what the complications are though.
Is 1.0 still on track for this year? That looks like a bit of work. Also, quite a few changes that don’t get much time to mature before 1.0 is declared stable…
The current plans have us putting out a release candidate (though not the final final release) by end of year, yes.
(Actually, following our current six-week schedule, it’ll be early January.)
