Dear fellow Rustaceans,

I wanted to post notice regarding a [recent clarification to the Code of Conduct](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust-www/pull/288). In particular, the original CoC began with the following text:

> We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, or similar personal characteristic.

We've updated this list of example characteristics to be more inclusive, per current best practices (more specifically, we are incorporating the list from the [Contributor's Covenant v1.3.0](http://contributor-covenant.org/version/1/3/0/)):

> We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of level of experience, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, or other similar characteristic.

This is not intended as a change to the actual meaning of the CoC, since all of these characteristics were intended to be implied by the original wording. However, there is a benefit to being more explicit: it sends a clearer signal to members of specific underrepresented or frequently mistreated groups, to say that we hold them in mind, and intend to keep our spaces safe for them.

Thank you very much! You may now return to your regularly scheduled Rust discussions.

Except of inside `unsafe {}` blocks?

There is a Dark Side of Rust, so there can be a Dark Side of the community.

While this is clearly a joke, the Code of Conduct is not, and we take it very seriously.

The “level of experience” is a nice touch, because that’s something that wasn’t necessarily implied by the previous wording, at least in my mind.

Nitpick: ‘characteristic’ should probably be either plural or qualified by ‘any’.
